The DJ Mag Top 100 DJ's Poll results were announced recently.
Heavily represented in the top 100 poll results are trance & techno.
This is no surprise.
Trance and techno have heavily dominated the poll for many years now.
For those who are unfamiliar with the DJ Mag Poll, it is an annual poll presented by DJ Magazine.
It invites fans to vote for their favorite DJ's.
Therefore, it is rather a sort of popularity poll.
Many are those in the industry who dismiss the poll altogether as being worthless, and then there are those who opine that the poll has some merit though is hardly scientific.
In any case, the DJ Mag Poll garners much attention for the DJ's who make the poll (as well as for DJ Magazine itself).
Trance and Techno DJ's once again dominate the poll.
Critics point out that this alone demonstrates the fault of the poll - that it does not correlate to record sales.
They point out that the poll results are skewed in favor of techno and trance DJ's because the fans of techno and trance dominate the voting, whereas if one were to look at actual record sales and market share in dance music - house music is clearly the 800 pound gorilla in the room.
The truth most likely is somewhere in the middle.
Trance & techno DJ's do dominate the DJ Mag Poll but these sub-genres of electronic dance music host and events and parties and DJ's that tend to draw the biggest crowds.
