Red clover (Trifolium pratense) Red clover is considered to be one of the richest sources isoflavones (water-soluble chemicals that act like oestrogens) and phytoestrogens and has been used for the symptoms of menopause. Traditionally, Red Clover has been used predominantly as a womens herbal supplement.
Because the oestrogen-like chemicals it contains may have caused abnormal foetal development in animal studies, taking red clover is not recommended for pregnant women.
Women with hormone-dependent conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and cancers of the breast, ovaries, or uterus should not take red clover due to its possible oestrogenic effects. Men with prostate cancer should also avoid taking red clover, unless a doctor recommends using it.
Very little information is available on how red clover might affect an infant or a small child. Therefore, its use is not recommended while breast-feeding or during early childhood.
There is no need to buy expensive formulas when you can use individual herbs to produce the desired effects at a fraction of the cost. You can improve many areas of your life through the correct use of quality herbs, diet health and relaxation to name only a few.
You may notice that many herbs have more than one popular use. This is because plant remedies tend to stimulate the whole system as well as having a primary effect on particular area(s). Plants and humans have evolved together over millions of years so it should come as no surprise that plant should have such a potent effect on us throughout history.
Using herbs for personal enhancement produces balanced, healthy results without risking the use of artificial man-made chemicals. It also helps us to feel we're getting back to Nature, which provides a huge boost in itself!
