How to Transfer High Definition Film From 8mm to DVD

    • 1). Set up a white movie screen. Use a white sheet or white poster board if you don't have a white movie projector screen.

    • 2). Prepare the projector and high-definition camcorder for recording. Thread the film through the 8mm film projector. Position the camcorder as close to your projector as possible without touching the projector. Adjust the zoom on the camcorder so that it captures all the film image on the movie screen. Turn manual exposure on. Connect the projector and camcorder via an audio cable.

    • 3). Turn off all the lights and make sure the room is as dark as possible. Turn on the projector. Hit record on your camcorder. The camcorder is now recording the 8mm film off the movie screen.

    • 4). Prepare for the DVD transfer. Now that your 8mm film is recorded onto your camcorder, connect your camcorder to your computer using a FireWire cable or USB cable. Open your video editing software program. Place a DVD in your computer's DVD disk drive.

    • 5). Click on a button or link in your video editing program that says "Burn DVD" or "Save to DVD." The video editing program is now transferring your film footage onto the DVD.
