There are many things to consider when you are choosing the colors for your wedding decor.
If you take the time to follow the following 6 points it will help you stay on budget and make your dream venue a reality.
What does your venue provide: Start at the beginning, once you choose your venue make a list of what the venue already has for decor and what is included so you don't waste your time looking for things that are already there.
Here are a few questions you should be asking: What kind of linen comes standard at the venue, do you get a choice of linen colors, do they rent any additional items, does your venue have preferred vendors that they recommend for rentals, do they have any pictures of different styles already used in the room so you can get a feel for what has worked before? What is your color palette: Most weddings have three colors that make up the color palette.
These three colors should all work together so they don't overpower one another and they can be used all together to form an elegant look.
Most linen comes in white, black or ivory so one of these primary colors should be apart of your palette.
The primary color is a good base to use for a chair cover, where as a brighter more powerful color like fuchsia should be used for accents like in the sash on the chair cover, the ribbon on the guest favour or the printing on the place card.
The third color should be somewhere in between the two colors and is typically used in the centerpiece, the menu, the program and other main components of the table.
What are your bridesmaids wearing: This is a very common mistake that most brides forget to consider when choosing the colors for their reception decor.
You want the bridesmaids to be show piece and you do not want them to blend into the room so be sure that they are wearing something that will stand apart from the color that plays the main role in the reception hall.
For example if your colors are primarily black with red accents and a touch of white you would want the girls to wear red or white verses black.
What month is your wedding taking place: This is something to always take into consideration.
If you are getting married in the Fall it is always nice to incorporate Fall colors like auburn, red and copper.
Play off the colors that will be found outside in nature.
This will make a real impact in your pictures and will be a detail that makes your wedding look like it has a consistent theme throughout.
What is the theme of your wedding: If you have chosen a theme for your wedding this will make a huge impact on your wedding decor.
If you have chosen a winter wonderland theme your colors will probably be more soft and shimmery like white, silver and pale blue verses something more dramatic like black and red.
What is your budget: Budget is always important and should be kept in mind when planning every aspect of your wedding including wedding decor.
If you play off the season your wedding take place in you may be able to save money by using flowers that are in season or taking things from nature to be used in your décor.
For example if you are having a Fall wedding use leafs fallen from trees outside to accent the reception tables.
Are Gerber Daisies more in season than Calla Lilies? Then Gerbers may be more affordable to be used in the bouquets, centerpieces and larger arrangements.
