- 1). Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen, and click "System Preferences" from the drop-down menu.
- 2). Select the "Accounts" icon, and click the lock icon in the lower-left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator password and click the "OK" button.
- 3). Select the "Login Options" tab, and select "Open Directory Utility" on the pop-up window. Click "Edit' at the top of the screen and select "Enable Root User" from the drop-down menu. Create a new root password, and click "OK."
- 4). Click the "Apple" icon, and click "Log Out" from the drop-down menu. Click the "Other" button on the Login screen, type "root" in the Name field, and enter the new password. Click the "Log In" button in the lower-right corner of the window.
- 5). Click the "Finder" icon on the screen's dock, and select "Macintosh HD" under the Devices section of the sidebar. Double-click the "Users" folder, and click the home folder once to highlight it. Click the home folder again to edit the name.
- 6). Type in the new name for the folder, and press the "Return" key on your keyboard. Click the "Apple" icon in the upper-left corner of the screen and select "Log Out."
