Deka Battery Installation

    Installing a Battery

    • 1). Remove the vehicle's negative battery cable from the battery's negative terminal, then remove the vehicle's positive battery cable from the battery's positive terminal. If your vehicle's battery cables are not marked or differentiated, take a marker to identify which cable is positive and which is negative.

    • 2). Remove the old battery from the vehicle's battery compartment. Remove any excess battery acid from the battery compartment with a rag soaked in a solution four parts water and one part baking soda.

    • 3). Place the new battery inside of the vehicle's battery compartment. Using a torque wrench, tighten any screws or hold-down hardware that keep the battery in place. Before closing the vehicle's hood, check the top of the battery or the battery case is not touching the undercoating of the vehicle's hood.

    • 4). Connect the vehicle's positive battery cable to the battery's positive terminal, then connect the vehicle's negative cable to the battery's negative terminal.

    • 5). Coat the battery box's exterior with a protective corrosion-resistant spray.
