- 1). Dig a hole for your basektball pole. The hole has to be deep enough to support a metal pole and a backboard. It needs to be about 24 inches deep and the same distance in circumference.
- 2). Mark the basketball pole about 15 to 18 inches from the bottom. You are going to set the pole in the ground at the 15-inch mark, and it may settle another inch or two.
- 3). Pour about 7 cubic feet of concrete in a mixing tub and prepare it to the manufacturer's specifications. Mix it thoroughly so there are no bubbles or lumps in the mixture. Pour the concrete in the hole and then put the basketball pole in the mixture. Set the pole in the ground at the 15-inch mark. Use a level to make sure the bottom of the pole is lying flat.
- 4). Let the concrete cure for 48 to 72 hours. Make sure the bottom half of the basketball pole is secure and completely dry before you proceed.
- 5). Secure the top half of the basketball pole to the bottom half. This means you will have to lift the top half over the lip of the bottom half and let it slide down until it latches into place. Once the basket is in place, climb a ladder and attach the netting to the circular eyelets on the rim. You are now ready to start playing basketball.
