- Click on the "Slice" tool at the top of the "Tools" window in Photoshop CS3. This activates the tool for use on your photo. Click and drag the mouse to highlight the area that you want to separate. The slice tool will automatically make other cuts based on that original selection.
- After the initial slice, each slice will have a labeled image number in the upper left-hand corner. As you make new slices, these numbers may change and gradually go higher. The order of the numbers goes from the left corner across to the bottom right corner.
- Edit each section of slice by using the "Slice Select Tool." Right-click on the "Slice Tool" and select the "Slice Select Tool" from the pop-out menu. Double-click in any of the slices to edit the name of the slice and add other information like the URL or tags, or to adjust the size of the slice.
- Easier ways to split up photos without just using geometric shapes are by using the "Pen Tool," "Lasso Tools" or the "Marquee Tools." They provide more customization than the "Slice Tool."
