For years, daters only had to worry about the phone call.
That initial phone call was always nerve wracking and men constantly wrestled with when to call when after a first date.
Is it call after one day or do you wait three days to ring her up? Today, thanks to the prevalence of mobile devices, things are much different.
Today, it's either text or call and most people still aren't clear on when to do either.
The following points should shed some light on the times when texting or calling is more appropriate.
Phone Calls Vs.
Texting The phone call is a little more intimate than the text message.
With phone calls, you can describe your day in full detail, you can tell your date about your past dating failures and you two can joke together as you try to get to know one another a little better.
' Text messaging is more about convenience.
The text is great for quick messages that don't require a lot of commitment.
You have a quick question and you need to shoot it out real fast.
You are going to be five minutes late and you are stuck in traffic.
Or, you want to know whether or not your date likes steak or chicken because you are trying to plan your date the night after.
These short messages expect a quick return and some texts don't expect any return at all.
Is Texting Rude? The problem with texting is that a lot of people see it as impersonal, especially when you are dating the other person.
A phone call allows for a much stronger connection.
Meanwhile, with a text message you might as well be speaking to a robot.
A text message doesn't require any commitment and therein lies the problem.
The solution is to use text messages sparingly with your dating partners.
After The First Date You should really use the phone when you are leading up to your first date.
This allows you to get more familiar with one another so that your first date isn't so blind.
Then, as soon as your first date is over, it is perfectly acceptable to send a text letting the person know you had a great time.
This might get a text conversation going.
Go along with it.
You never know where it will lead.
The Next Couple Of Days The next few days after a date, it is best to use the phone.
Again, this is a time to build a connection.
If you need to send out a quick message, texting is acceptable, but never ask any important questions or try to get a conversation going via text.
The person will think that you don't want to commit to them, even for a few minutes.
It sends the wrong message, especially to those that are very sensitive to the texting phenomenon.
Some people hate texting, so you should be aware that people like that exist.
When Texting Is Acceptable After you two are a little more comfortable with each other, then text away.
Texting is a great way to connect with that person when you are bored at work, when you are stuck in a traffic jam or when you are just laying down to go to bed.
As long as you don't try to use texting too much early on, and you use the phone for the deeper conversations, your relationship should progress beautifully.
