Do you know the different types of Diabetes? When I heard of there were different types of diabetes I was surprised and did a little research and here is what I came up with.
Type 1 Diabetes: This is a form of diabetes where the immune system mistakenly destroys the insulin making beta cells of the pancreas.
This form of diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and adolescents and even young adults.
Type 1 Diabetes used to be called juvenile diabetes; to survive the patient must administer insulin medicine regularly.
That being said children can also develop other forms of diabetes.
Some patients because of weight gain or genetics can develop autoimmune diabetes; this condition is also called double diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes.
This occurs when there is a disorder of the metabolism usually involving excess weight gain.
In this cases in the initial stages the pancreases makes insulin, but the body has trouble using the glucose controlling hormone.
Eventually the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to meet the body's needs.
This form of diabetes is most common, accounting to 85 to 90% of the cases in most of the developed countries and it's even higher in the developing countries, according to the International Diabetic Federation.
This illness usually does not happen overnight it sometimes takes years to develop; It starts with the pre diabetes phase where the blood sugar levels are high but not that high to be diagnosed as diabetes.
People in this stage can prevent or delay the escalation of the type 2 diabetes by eating healthy, exercising and losing weight.
