How to Connect Two PCs Together for an XP Reinstall

    • 1). Plug the crossover cable into the network port on the back of each computer.

    • 2). Right-click "My Computer," select "Properties," click "Computer Name" and select "Change." Enter "COPYNET" in the Workgroup field. Perform this procedure on each computer.

    • 3). Double-click "My Computer" on either machine. Click "Tools" and select "Folder Options." Click "View" and select "Simple File Sharing." Repeat this procedure on the other computer.

    • 4). Right-click "Start" and click "Explore" on the computer that will be sharing the XP files. Right-click the "C" drive of the computer and select "Share" to share the XP system files on the network.
