- 1). Clean the wall you want to paint thoroughly with a sponge and warm, soapy water. Cover any areas of indentation, cracks or bumps by spreading spackle on the wall and allowing it to dry. Sand off with fine-grit sandpaper until smooth and wipe down with a dry cloth.
- 2). Section off the area of the wall you want to cover with chalkboard paint using painter's tape. Designate an area of the wall to create a calendar in a home office, doodling area in a child's room or menu board in the kitchen; otherwise paint the entire wall, if desired.
- 3). Roll the chalkboard paint onto the wall and allow to dry thoroughly for 24 to 48 hours. Add a second coat for a uniform application.
- 4). Allow the second coat to dry for an additional 48 hours before drawing with chalk.
