  • Start Irún, on the Spanish side of the French border.
  • Places of Interest San Sebastian, Bilbao, Santander, Oviedo, Lugo.
  • Distance 825km
  • Average Time Taken About 30 days.
  • Notes When the Moors ruled most of Spain, the north coast was the only safe route to Santiago de Compostela. It is believed that this is the oldest Camino de Santiago route.
This is one of the picturesque routes, as it takes you along the coast and through most of northern Spain's most important cities. It is quite a bit harder than the Camino Frances, with less refuges for pilgrims, which means you may have to walk further each day than you would on the Camino Frances.
