- 1). Connect a control cable to the furnace. The furnace will have a small control port that is used for connecting to the thermostat. The model of control cable depends on the type of furnace.
- 2). Connect a control cable to the A/C. The A/C will have a small control port that is used for connecting to the thermostat. The model control cable depends on the type of A/C.
- 3). Run both cables to the location of the thermostat.
- 4). Plug the two cables into the thermostat. Newer models use connector clips that make plugging the units into the thermostat easy. The connector clip for the A/C and furnace are different, and it should be obvious which goes in which port. Clip them in. The ports are also labeled on the thermostat.
- 5). Connect older models. Older models will have four cables and no clip. The LR1620 accommodates those. The cables should be labeled "G," "RH," "Y" and "W." Plug these wires into their respective ports on the the thermostat.
- 6). Insert batteries into the thermostat and mount on the wall.
