- 1). Upend the vacuum cleaner on the floor. Remove the bottom plate by pulling a plastic tab at each end first or by removing screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the brush assembly out. Grip an end of the fan belt that has fallen off the motor shaft. Place the looped end of the belt back around the motor shaft. Return the brush assembly and the bottom plate to the bottom of the vacuum. Right the vacuum cleaner.
- 2). Upend the vacuum cleaner and remove the bottom plate and brush assembly -- use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. Aim a flashlight into the vacuum to locate the red thermal switch that connects to the motor. Push the switch with the tip of a flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver to reset the switch so that the motor will operate. Reattach the brush assembly and bottom plate onto the vacuum cleaner.
- 3). Remove the screws from around the compartment at the bottom back of the vacuum cleaner that the power cord runs through, using the Phillips screwdriver. Loosen the screws on the motor that can be seen inside the compartment with the screwdriver. Shake a can of electrical lubricating spray for five seconds. Spray a two second burst on each screw. Tighten the screws. Replace the compartment and reattach the screws.
