- 1). Remain calm. While it is tempting to say something rude to your coworker, it will only make the situation worse. Your coworker could become defensive and not listen to anything you have to say. If you feel like you are about to lose your cool, step out of the room and drink some water to calm yourself.
- 2). Ask yourself if her behavior is truly affecting your work. If she makes a couple of sarcastic remarks every now and then, it is best to brush them off. She might not mean to hurt your feelings, and you might be overly sensitive. If you become upset about every comment someone makes, it distracts you from completing your work.
- 3). Talk to your coworker. Tell him that his rude behavior bothers you and you would appreciate it if he would stop. Provide him with specific examples of the times he said rude things to you. For example, you can say, "When you told me yesterday about how incompetent I am, it really made me feel bad."
- 4). Do not allow your coworker's rude comments to upset you. If you allow her to get under your skin, it will distract you from getting your work finished. Recognize that she is being rude because she is not happy about something in her life, not because there is anything wrong with you.
- 5). Speak to your manager if your coworker does not change his rude behavior. Without being overly emotional, explain that your coworker has been saying rude things to you and has been distracting you from your work. Tell your manager that you already spoke to your coworker about your situation but she refuses to stop her rude behavior.
