Valhalla Rising is a riveting tale of marine scientist, Dirt Pitt, and his many adventures on land and at sea.
 The novel starts by giving the readers a look into a colony of Vikings in North America.
 After the short tale of the Vikings, the reader is given a glimpse of an early war ship's battle with a submarine.
 At this point, the reader isn't sure how Vikings or submarines relate to one another, except by the sea.
Fast forward to the present, and the novel brings the reader straight into a nightmare.
 A luxury cruise ship is on fire.
 One of the passengers is the engineer who designed the ship's propulsion system.
 A marine science vessel is nearby and heads to the luxury ship to help its passengers.
 Dirk Pitt, a marine scientist, is onboard the science vessel and coordinates a massive rescue effort.
 After rescuing all the passengers they possibly can, it becomes evident to Dirk and his colleagues that the fire onboard the luxury liner was no accident, and someone is after the propulsion engineer's secrets.
 But why? Through a series of events at sea and on land, Dirk, his colleagues, and other federal agencies discover an evil plot developed by homegrown terrorists.
 Will Dirk be able to stop them in time to prevent a tragedy of catastrophic proportions? What did the Vikings have to do with submarines and a cruise ship? You'll have to read the book to find out.
