When you're talking about kids who do sports like, let's say, surfing, we might say, ‚¬"Well, it's common,‚¬ or, ‚¬"I've seen my share of children riding the waves.‚¬ But here is a special little girl who is not only engaged in surfing but also in skateboarding, and she is just six years old!
This miss has a nickname of ‚¬"The Flying Squirrel.‚¬ Quincy Symonds is as mentioned, six years old, and she had started surfing when she was just four years old, followed by skating two months after. What makes this kid more amazing as she already is is that she is fighting an illness in which she has now become steroid dependent. Quincy, since birth, was diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, a disorder in the adrenal gland that affects one in 10,000 to 18,000 children. Because of this insufficiency, after she was born, she was in the intensive care unit for three weeks.
Nevertheless, Quincy is a strong gal and even if she is only in her first year of school, she is making waves in both the surfing and skateboarding world.
Her first try on a surfboard was with her father, Jake, who was a surfer himself, when they were out on a holiday in the Gold Coast. Her mother, Kim, saw then how excited Quincy was, even if she was not really exposed to water or the ocean beforehand. And right then and there, Quincy could not get enough.
But two months later, Jake and Kim thought surfing in the ocean was a rough activity for this precious little child so the alternative then was skating. Even so, Quincy loves both surfing and skateboarding equally.
It has been a constant challenge, her disease, where she takes cortisone medication for three times per day. But then again, it almost doesn't matter. Quincy is fearless and energetic; Kim is astounded as to how focused and driven her daughter is in her passions.
Because of her talent and love for what she does, Quincy has landed herself multiple sponsors and supporters. There is no doubt she will be a pro surfer and skater as she wants to be when she grows up. As her coach, Anthony Pope, claims, she has total potential for a professional career someday, with her superb balance and surfing ability.
People who get to see Quincy surf are always left awestruck and open mouthed, much more for sure if they get to know she is fighting a rare disease.
This Australian girl will no doubt grow into a badass babe that will impress everyone around the world. Young as she is now, she is already fearless and enthusiastic in her craft, how much more when she comes of age?
Quincy is another testimony on how age and even sickness cannot affect one's life - just only if they let it be. We learn from her that if you are passionate about something (sports it is with her) you can do it if you go from it. There will be challenges and hardships, but if you are doing what you love, it will be worth it.
You are an inspiration, little Quincy!
