- 1). Clean the lock you wish to cut using water and a rag. Remove anything that is flammable from the area around the lock.
- 2). Put on your protective welding gloves and your helmet. Make sure the torch is full of butane and ignite it using the button located on the top, side or main handle of the torch. Adjust the flame until it is approximately 1 inch long.
- 3). Cut the lock. Hold the tip of the flame against the U-shape part of the lock. Wait until the metal on the lock becomes bright orange and use your free hand to pull the lock down and away. If you are having difficulty breaking the lock, apply the flame of the butane torch longer and over a wider area of the lock.
- 4). Turn off the butane torch by releasing the main button and turning the flame down. Splash the cut lock with water and discard it once it has cooled down.
