We're living in a time where sinful people just don't want to be told that they are sinners in the sight of God. To put it differently, people just don't want to acknowledge their sinfulness to God. Well, that shouldn't take anyone by surprise since that's the typical tendency of those who are trapped in sinful lifestyles. The primary reason people have given themselves over to sin is because of allowing the fleeting pleasures they can get out of sinful behaviors to override their God-given conscience.
Meaning that once they find themselves in that horrible state, it will become very hard for them to accept the fact that they are living in sin. All that problem stems with the negative impacts sin literally has on the practitioner. In fact, sin corrupts people's judgement. In other words, it destroys their ability to think and decide wisely with respect to spiritual matters. Besides, people simply want to keep on practicing sinful behaviors without feeling any sense of guilt.
Don't Judge me Has Become an Excuse in Order to Cover up Sins.
Well, the problem doesn't just stop there because what about the great commission that Christians have been entrusted with by Christ? What about the God-given responsibility Christians have to take a biblical stance against anything that God condemns as evil in His sight?
As you already know, in a world filled with all types of confusions and deceptions, these types of positions mentioned above will never sit well with people who belong to this world. Sadly, those who are of this world happen to see critical issues that have the potential to determine their eternity in complete reverse. Surprisingly, due to confusion and deception that surround people's lives, whenever a Bible believer takes a biblical stance against something sinful, it's always a problem for many.
In their desperate quest to cover up their sins, their tendency is to accuse Christians as being judgmental. Their own favorite Scripture verse is found in (Luke 6:37). It's kind of interesting to see how people are quick to use Scripture in order to defend something that has already been condemned while they don't want the Word of God to be anywhere in their lives.
Can Taking a Biblical Stance Against Sinful Behaviors be Classified as Judging People?
This question pushes us to take a look at the Pharisees' erratic behaviors during Christ's earthly ministries. Based on the accounts of Scriptures, the Pharisees were very prideful and arrogant in their ways (Luke 18:11). Shockingly, they were self-righteous as well. The big issue was that they had a tendency to pass judgement on anyone who wasn't living up to their own self-righteousness standard. Judging others was simply an instrument they made use of in order for them to show their own superiority to others.
That plainly explains the reason why the Pharisee being depicted by Christ who was praying to God arrogantly said, 'I'm not like other people'. Jesus pretty much made that statement found in (Luke 6:37, Matthew 7:1) about judging others in response to the behaviors of the Pharisees. In fact, Jesus was actually addressing the Jewish leaders because of their erroneous belief that they were the judges of all men. They could somehow render final judgement on people. Therefore, it's easy for us to realize that passing judgment on others on the basis of our own self-righteousness standard, or in order to show that we're better than others is sinful to God.
However, if we're simply taking a biblical stance against something evil by doing that in a selfless and helpful manner, we're not the one passing judgement on others. God is the very One passing judgement because we're only telling people what God says in His Word. There's no need to let the world intimidate us about that. The Word is given to be proclaimed to others whether they like or not. People will be judged according to what's written in the Word of God.
When proclaiming the Word to others or telling them what God says about certain critical issues, we've become a channel through which God speaks to them about their own sinfulness to Him. The point is that the Christian life is a form of life based totally on humility. If we allow that to become the core foundation of our walk with Christ, we'll not indulge in irresponsible behaviors intended to show our superiority to others. The reason is that we were just as sinful as they are at some point, even worse than them.
How Christian Should Address Sinful Behaviors in The Light of Scripture?
As Christians, we have to become opportunist for Christ due to the fact there is a lot at stake. Whenever there's an open opportunity that arises for us to stand for Christ, we have to be willing to seize it no matter how others may react.
We have to adopt a smarter approach when dealing with sensitive sinful issues that can potentially offend people. We have to present the truth lovingly, compassionately, mercifully, and graciously to them. Our job shouldn't only be about exposing the problem but offering solution to the problem of sins going on in people's lives by pointing them to Christ.
Conclusion
We're living in a world in which God's love that being flowed through us that compels us to stand for the truth is considered as hatred by the world. As mentioned above, the world always views critical issues in complete reverse. Meaning that in their backward thinking, the only manner they think that we can extend the love of God to them is by affirming their deviant behaviors that will ultimately lead them to eternal destruction. They pretty much want us to appease them in their sinful condition. In reality, that's not love at all.
Thereby, the truth that can set them free is considered as hatred because it goes against what they want to do while the lies of the enemy that will eventually destroy them are considered as love. Lastly, our boldness in Christ can only be expressed by our courage not to let people's offenses to hold us back from standing for the truth.
