And like many other hard gainers I fell into the trap of believing I need to work out more frequently than normal guys to achieve any results.
In fact, I have found the opposite to be true.
If you have a hard time putting on muscle, it also means something else...
You have a hard time putting on fat weight (which is awesome).
With that said, you need to actually work out LESS and focus more on your diet.
You see, the only way you are going to gain muscle is by consuming more calories than your body burns on a daily basis.
I suggest you have a hardcore full body workout for 2-3 times per week and then focus on supplying your body with tons of carbohydrates and protein during all that other time.
Just remember to stay away from junk food (as they will only lead to gaining fat rather than muscle).
Slow Down...
Another thing you must understand is that the whole goal of weight lifting is to tear your muscle fiber.
Breaking down your muscles is what gets the whole rebuilding process started.
So you should focus on this more than anything else during workouts.
How can you tear more muscle fiber with each repetition? Lift slower.
Take any and all momentum out of your movements and be sure that the entire load is focused on your target muscle groups.
