- 1). Inspect your monitor and the laptop for either a VGA or DVI port. The two must share one of the ports in order to connect the monitor to the Vista laptop. A VGA port has three rows of small, circular pin holes while a DVI port has several rows of square peg holes and a cross shaped connection to one side.
- 2). Connect either the DVI or the VGA cable into the respected port on the laptop computer, then plug the other end of the cable into the monitor. Power on the monitor.
- 3). Hold down the a "FN" button on your laptop, then press the hotkey for the monitor. This is typically "F5," but you can see an image of a monitor on the key. Once you push the key the contents is displayed on the monitor.
