And if you know the right places to look it can be a pretty simple do-it-yourself project.
In this article I'm going to show you 2 different online tools for making ringtones.
Both tools are free.
The first one, that you may already be familiar with is called "Myxer".
The second one we'll discuss is called "Make Own Ringtone" but I'll just call it MOR for short.
Now let's get started.
First, you'll need to get your source file (ie the song, sound effect, whatever).
It needs to be in a supported format.
Myxer supports WAV, MP3, WMA, and M4A files.
MOR supports MP3, WMA and OGG audio files.
Neither of the tools supports DRM protected music.
To make a ringtone with Myxer, follow these steps:
- Go to myxer.
com and click the "Make Your Own" link. - Click the "Browse...
" button and select the source file you want to use from your computer. - Click "Upload" and wait for the file to upload.
(This can take a while depending on your Internet connection speed.
) - Select where the ringtone should start and end, by dragging the orange bars right or left.
Press play to preview your selection.
The only other options here are loop and fade in/out.
Once you're happy with the way it sounds, click "Continue". - Enter your phone number and click "Next".

If you want to download the ringtone directly to your phone, click "send" and skip to step 7.

If you are going to transfer the song from your computer, click the "Download to PC" button at the bottom, then use your phone software or memory card to transfer the file to your phone and skip to step 8. - You'll get a text message with a download link in it.
Just "click" the link to download the ringtone. - Select the file you downloaded to be your ringtone, in your phone settings.
That's where MOR comes in.
Here's how to use it:
- Got to makeownringtone.
com - Click the "Upload" button and wait for the file to upload.
(This can take a while depending on your Internet connection speed.
) - You'll see an editing interface a lot like Myxer's.
Drag the green bar to where the ringtone should start, and drag the black on to where it should stop.
You can also drag the red line to fast forward or rewind. - Now click the "Expert Mode" tab check out the effects! We don't have the time to discuss all the effects, so you'll just have to play around with them yourself.
You can also select the file format (MP3, AAC, M4R, MP4, MPC,OGG, or QCP) and bitrate (that's the quality; the higher the number the better the quality). - a.
If you want to download the ringtone directly to your phone, select "to cell phone" from the "Download:" menu, then click the "Make a Ringtone" button and skip to step 6.

If you are going to transfer the song from your computer, select "to computer" from the "Download:" menu, click the "Make a Ringtone" button, and download the file.
Then use your phone software or memory card to transfer the file to your phone and skip to step 7. - You'll be giving a download URL for the ringtone.
Start the web browser on your phone and type that URL into the address bar, or into the "Go to" command.
This should start the download. - Select the file you downloaded to be your ringtone, in your phone settings.
