My Computer Won't Install the Windows Updates for Vista

    • 1). Check the amount of free disk space on your hard drive. Click "Start." Click "Computer." Right-click the C: drive.

    • 2). Review the information displayed next to "Free Space." Return to Windows Update. If the amount of space available on your hard drive does not meet or exceed the maximum amount of space the updates require, delete any unnecessary files from your hard drive, or transfer data to another storage media, to free up space.

    • 3). Click "Start." Click "All Programs." Click "Windows Update." Review any errors displayed on the page.

    • 4). Click "Get help with this error" to go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base and find troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. If the error message states that the update failed due to the license agreement, click "Try again." Click "I accept" when the license terms appear on screen. Windows will attempt to reinstall the update to your PC.
