How to Repair a Homelite Chainsaw Carburetor

    • 1). Unscrew the Homelite saw's gas cap and dump any old gasoline left in the tank. In a fresh gasoline can, mix one gallon of gasoline and 2.6 fluid ounces of two-cycle oil.

    • 2). Use a pair of pliers to remove the Homelite chainsaw's spark plug boot.

    • 3). Use the pliers to also pull the primer bulb assembly free from the engine. Check to ensure that the fuel lines are attached to the two connectors on the back of the primer bulb and that they are not dry, cracked or dry-rotted. Proceed to the next step to check the other end of the fuel lines.

    • 4). Remove the Homelite's air filter cover with a screwdriver. Remove the filter, then use an Allen wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the filter housing in place. Lift the filter housing out of the way to expose the carburetor.

    • 5). Check that the fuel lines are attached. If they are dried, pull them off the two metal nozzles on the carburetor, then remove the other ends from the back of the primer bulb. Slip two new lines to the back of the primer bulb and the jets on the carburetor.

    • 6). Spray the carburetor with liquid carburetor cleaner and wipe with a dry rag.

    • 7). Put the air filter cover in place then secure the retaining bolts with the Allen wrench. Slip the air filter back in and then replace the air filter cover.

    • 8). Place gas into the gas tank and start the Homelite chain saw. Allow it to run for five minutes, then observe the carburetor's idle as it runs.

    • 9). Insert the screwdriver into the back of the fuel mixture screw. Turn it slightly (about a 1/4 turn) to the left if the idle speed is too high. Turn the screw to the right the same distance if it is running too low.
