If keeping the components of a motorcycle working perfectly is the need to enjoy the ride, ensuring the quality of the paint is about showing the world that you are proud of your bike.
But the exterior gloss usually does not last many days after you take possession of your dream machine.
Soon, the sheen wears off, the body starts to look dull and scratches are the order of the day.
Why does all this happen? The answer is simple.
Not enough is being done to a) prevent this happening, b) the damage control that is done to the paint's poor condition is not adequate, c) ongoing steps taken are not of a high order and quality, and finally, d) being aware all the time with regard to the potential threats to the paint condition not fully known or ignored.
So, how do we keep things under control and ensure the paint on your motorcycle makes do with proper understanding and application of these four steps that we can also call tricks? Firstly, prevention is better than going for elaborate maintenance.
So, where possible, take care that you park your bike under a covered area above.
This itself ensures that you might not have to take too many damage control steps.
To save your precious vehicle from the elements, even a waterproof cover can go a long way.
Secondly, if some damage has occurred, it's time to address it urgently.
Dirt and grime should be cleaned immediately as its presence, coupled with harsh sunlight and rain, could do the job of the paint layer breaking down.
That also is a surefire invitation for rust.
While cleaning, first dust the loose particles and wash away stickier ones before finally polishing it.
Ideally, any severe damage should be attended to by professionals who would use the methods and scratch removers, where required.
Thirdly, a one time damage control is not enough.
Ongoing steps should be taken to keep things in order.
Waxing helps retain shine and prevents dust from sticking again.
Periodically, watch out for any oil or liquid that spills on the body that could leave behind indelible marks.
When that happens, take immediate steps to remove them.
Finally, being aware of the potential threats to the paint is a must.
Be wary of metal or other sharp objects that can leave behind a scratch on the body.
Other tips to be kept in mind are regarding bird droppings - the number one enemy of a vehicle's paint.
Also, the quality of the materials being used to clean should be good.
Dirty mops, inferior quality cleaning products and a rough approach should be avoided.
