Who would have thunk it? Scott Brown is now the new Republican Senator from Massachusetts, taking Senator Ted Kennedy's generation-long-held Democratic seat.
Well, that is one flat-out shocker.
Or, is it? The change Americans have been looking for, and what they thought they were getting in the last presidential election, has been reaffirmed in Massachusetts with Brown's election.
Does this mean the Democrats are done and will now find it impossible to pass any meaningful legislation, like health care reform? Now that the Senate is no longer filibuster-proof, it's anyone's guess.
But, this huge upset, some calling it the biggest upset ever, must certainly be viewed as a 9-magnitude Richter Scale wake-up call.
We want change all right, and it has not been forthcoming.
Business as usual has ruled the day with banks gobbling up profits just like in the good old days of subprime mortgages and the derivative and credit default swap investment scams.
Nothing's really changed at all except for record foreclosures, shuttered businesses and job losses.
Bottom line: voters are still voting for CHANGE! "The irony of the Massachusetts election results is they show that Independents and the Progressive base are demanding the same thing--an answer to the real anger in our country about why Wall Street is still flush and Main Street is still struggling," said Ilyse Hogue of the progressive advocacy group MoveOn.
org.
The electorate demanded changed in 2008.
However, obscene Wall Street bonuses continue to be paid out, while the health care industry is reaping the rewards of soaring stock prices while the masses pay ridiculous bailouts to the thieves who are currently causing their suffering.
Health care has yet to be reformed, and if anything ever comes of that, which it just may never, what good will it really do for most Americans? We are suffering mightily.
Party affiliations don't really matter much anymore.
People want change, bold leadership and a righting of a sinking ship.
Corporate control of our government and all its legislation has remained entrenched in a system that no longer works for everyday American citizens.
Folks want the corporate suffocation of the political system and the economy to be challenged, and changed.
Who lobbies for US?! As we approach yet another tax season, it's more emotionally difficult than ever to see how much you've paid, or still owe, to your state and national government as you ponder where it's all going: down a rat hole of corporate greed the likes of which we have never seen before.
Can you say "bailout?" Can you say "grotesque?" Massachusetts is the canary in the political mine, and it has died, my friends.
