- 1). Pick a heavy-duty utility hook to hang the weed eater from the ceiling. Hardware and home supply stores carry them in many sizes. Many weed eaters have a handle that easily fits over a hook. This allows you to hang it vertically. Hanging the tool like this may let you lift it off the hook without using a ladder when you need it. This is a wise solution for an electric weed eater.
- 2). Ask someone to hold a ladder steady while you climb it. Choose a section near the corner of your ceiling. This location prevents the weed eater from accidentally falling on someone and also looks more aesthetically pleasing.
- 3). Locate the stud in the ceiling by sliding a stud finder over the area. Indicate the stud with a mark from a sharpened pencil. A stud is necessary to hold the weight of the weed eater safely.
- 4). Drill a small hole in the stud with an electric drill. Use a bit that is slightly smaller than the threads of the screw on the utility hook.
- 5). Twist the hook securely into the hole with your fingers. Once it tightens, use wire pliers to help you twist it in all the way. This prevents it from coming loose over time. Hang the handle of the weed eater over the hook.
