The story, 'ten things I hate about me' begins with an issue of racial discrimination with the lebenese-muslim background people.
Jamilah Tawfeek- well, that's her real name, has hidden her true self of lesbian Muslim identity from everyone at her school.
She has tried her best to prevent everyone from discovering her real self.
So, here she is now, as Jamie with her hair dyed and wearing lenses.
Her father is quite strict with her about her life and her regulations.
Now her life is turning out into a mess.
The most happening guy in her batch now suddenly seems interested in her.
There also Timothy, who she can't stop thinking about.
With her dad hovering over her with his strict curfew rules, she thinks she won't be able to handle it anymore now and therefore opens up to her e-mail friend John.
In very less time, she has confided in him and they become good friends.
Her school's formal is coming up and her dad won't allow her to attend it at any cost.
She feels devastated-and doesn't know what excuse she will give this time.
To top it all, her friend John has suddenly stopped mailing her without giving her any reason.
There is something deep about him which when Jamie discovers is surely taken aback.
In the end, she finds out that she will be allowed to go in the formal only if she exposes her true identity at school.
With her best buddies' encouragement and all their support Jamilah now manages to put everything back in order finally.
