- It wouldn't be a disco party without a disco ball. Purchase one and hang it from the ceiling and do the Hustle or another dance from that era. Light directed at the ball will reflect throughout the room.
- Happy faces were all over the place in the 1970s. Put up a few paper happy faces on the walls or purchase paper happy face plates and cups to use with the party food.
- Visit an art store or visit art.com for a huge selection of posters. Posters also may be available at antique stores. Pin up posters of your favorite 1970s disco-era bands and films. Ideas include ABBA, The Bee Gees and "Saturday Night Fever." For a cheaper alternative, dig through your old record collection and hang up some of the record jackets.
- Wildly popular in the 1970s, tie-dye was used to decorate everything from afghans to clothing. Hang a tie-dyed throw on your wall or use a tie-dyed tablecloth on the refreshment table.
- Lava lamps, popular in the 1970s, are still around. Purchase one or two at your local K-Mart, Target or Wal-Mart to plug in. Include a strobe light and a flashing traffic light to set the mood.
- Purchase a few pet rocks to line along the refreshment table or set up a table where guests can paint their own pet rocks to take home after your disco party.
