This is one the best ways to make new friends and find out more about a different culture.
However, when it comes to learning about a new culture, it can be stressful and frustrating experience as one is constantly thrown into new situations.
This is what is known as culture shock, which can have many other emotions like fear, confusion and even homesickness.
Culture shock primarily occurs because a person is forced to carry out their everyday life in a manner there are not used to and also because they are away from familiar surroundings and people they know.
So, here are some tips to help you overcome culture shock: •Many times people prepare themselves well in advance when they are going to visit another country.
However, even then, they will feel overwhelmed at times.
This is understandable and they should expect themselves to be perfect from the word go.
However, as time goes by, things will get easier.
•It is important for a person to have an open mind.
Just because you are served food that is different from what you are used to eating, you should not be quick to judge it.
The same also goes for dealing with people and the way they communicate.
Often, a person's expectations are not correct and this can be highly stressful.
So, just because a culture of country is different, you should not be ready to judge it.
Instead, you should be open to experience new things in your life.
•It is important for you to be part of various activities.
No doubt you will make mistakes, but do not let it stop you.
Most people in the host country will be forgiving because they know you are foreigner, and if you are lucky, they may be willing to act as your guide and mentor.
If you have trouble following things, it is best to ask those around you.
•Make sure you keep in regular touch with your friends and family back home.
This way you will be less prone to homesickness.
Also, if you do feel homesick, your friends and family will lend you support to overcome it.
