Sometimes I laugh when US Presidents and our State Department attempts to convince the American People that they are making peace with the Russians.
Right now, Russia is egging on Iran, and although they let us fly over their airspace occasionally into Afghanistan, that hasn't been without some major concessions on our part.
Just when the US was making "so-called" progress, Russia is busy convincing NATO to let them join or re-think their mission claiming that they are no longer a threat to Eastern Europe or any nation in the EU for that matter - well, whatever is left of it after this latest Greek Tragedy and domino cascading slow motion train wreck that is.
There was an interesting new item with coverage on CBS news recently on November 23, 2011 titled; "Russia may target U.
S.
missile defense sites," which seemed to indicate that if the US wouldn't listen to its concerns, this would be their response.
Well, I have to comment on this.
Now then, the article stated: "Russia will deploy new missiles aimed at U.
S.
missile defense sites in Europe if Washington goes ahead with the planned shield despite Russia's concerns, President Dmitry Medvedev.
Russia will station missiles in its westernmost Kaliningrad region and other areas if Russia and NATO fail to reach a deal on the U.
S.
-led missile defense plans, perhaps rallying domestic support.
Russia considers the plans for missile shields in Europe, including in Romania and Poland, to be a threat to its nuclear forces, but the Obama administration insists they are meant to fend off a potential threat from Iran.
" First, from Russia's point of view it would be nothing short of incompetence not to have their missiles pointed at the missile shield batteries, and its perceived enemies.
Further, Russia, like the US has pre-programmed missile target location data ready to wrong, and their missile sites can just re-adjust and re-calibrate in less than a minute or two and fire.
So, where they are pointed right now is pretty irrelevant if you ask me.
So, what's the big deal with all this? Posturing for Putin's election, but also a strong media play and a friendly reminder that Russia is there, still a force to be reckoned with and that cold-war we won, well, they don't exactly see it that way, at least not all of their leadership there, so beware.
Oh, and do study your history before you care to opine.
Please consider all this and think on it.
