- 1). Turn the sander so that its pad faces upward. In the pad, you will see several bolts or screws. Remove these to remove the sanding pad from the sander. It will come apart as a unit, with the metal bars on each end of the sanding pad remaining connected to the pad.
- 2). Reach into the casing beside the motor with the tip of the screwdriver and loosen any compacted wood dust you find there. Turn the sander over and tap the top, and the dust will fall out.
- 3). Remove the screws or bolts that hold the motor into the handle housing, and then drop the motor out. Remove the wire connections to the electrical leads of the motor.
- 4). Unscrew the base plate that holds the switch mechanism in place on the sander's housing. The switch will be connected to the power lead from the electrical cord. If you are replacing the switch, disconnect the leads from the switch and pull the switch out of the housing. Clean out any additional wood dust you find inside the sander's housing at this time. Reassembly of the jitterbug orbital sander is the opposite of its disassembly.
