- 1). Locate the positive and negative terminals of your solar cell. They are almost invariably located on the back of the panel, and are marked as positive and negative.
- 2). Clip the positive (red) alligator lead from the multimeter to the positive terminal of the solar panel, and the negative (black) alligator lead to the negative solar panel terminal.
- 3). Record the solar panel's output voltage in maximum, consistent sunlight and compare that reading to the solar panel's rated efficiency. If it's consistently too low, your solar panel needs to be repaired.
