Difference Between Quartz & Halogen Heating

    Halogen

    • Halogen lamps have a filament, much like an incandescent bulb; it is filled with halogen gas. Halogen lamps are energy efficient, cost less, and admit less ultraviolet (UV) light than many other lamps, according to GE.

    Quartz

    • Quartz lighting systems consist of a quartz ar, twisted cylinder with mercury and argon. When you switch on the lamp, the tungsten electrode in the lamp interacts with the chemicals contained inside to produce light. This light is bright white in color.

    Benefits

    • Halogen lights last longer than quartz lights due to the halogen gas. Without the halogen, the tungsten would be released from the filament to the glass tube -- a burn out. The halogen redeposits the tungsten back into the filament causing a longer lamp life. Quartz creates a much brighter "white" light that can be beneficial when lighting dark areas, such as a garage or an outside flood lamp. A quartz-halogen combination light can also be used.
