While it had winnowed like a seed
upward toward the sun
the light beams have since departed
and the darkness has taken its toll
Alas there is water under the bridge
and the ferry has begun to make its desolate way
Gone are the nights of intemperate weather
and moral rectitude has taken its sway
For crookedness has its merit
so among the bent back tulips you shall see
how the asphodel lives
With their eyelids dripping downward
and their pupils a blackened sea,
there was a time when their stalks were firm
and their lessons were what they were supposed to be
Yet deprivation has a very gradual effect
At first it may influence the reflexes but later the autonomous response
The knees may become weary and the genitals forever worn
But this is what you get when you have taken far too many turns
For the path may have many temptations and the avenue has much more than that
On neighborhood street corners there have even been marks of Venus
and on occasion a pernicious flytrap
In the wetlands you will find them with their moist openings that are hardly a snatch
So keep your eyes open and never look down
The daffodils have been known to entice and the lily's charge a very dear price
Give me a rose for at least on them you can depend
They will be there in a heartbeat as there is no need to agonize or fight
But they are an entirely different bird as this you should surely see
There petals remain supple and their stems are hardy and high
Some say they have the look of the cockatoo, although I am not certain that I agree
Its feathers are often white but streaks of yellow have been known to appear
The daisy is a faithful flower as there is often little doubt
about the direction that it will extend
There are no major curvatures, no flexure, no circus, no arch
Only a prideful understanding of her own fine appearance, with shiny eyes
and an energetic stretch to the sky, she has no oversized hangups
and very few remorseful regrets
On a sunny day you can see her so youthful although she is old
Life has been good to her, her roots are country and there is freshness in the air
So take it very slowly and be careful not to strain your back
Stay close to nature and inhale your fruits and veggies if you can
Your impulses should be healthy so indulge them whenever they do come
