- 1). Go to any of the worlds you can access and defeat all four courses to earn a Gold Balloon from each. Defeat the area's boss to unlock the Silver Coin Challenge for that area.
- 2). Challenge the races again; this time you must win the race and collect all eight Silver Coins on the track (doing neither or only one of the tasks counts as a loss). Complete the Silver Coin Challenges for all four courses to earn additional balloons.
- 3). Challenge Taj in the various vehicle races on the overworld for additional balloons (5 balloons unlocks the Car Challenge, 13 unlocks the Hover Challenge, and 18 unlocks the Plane Challenge).
- 4). Collect a total of 22 balloons from races and challenges and then enter Dragon Forest (located behind the waterfall to the left of the Wizpig statue). Find the door marked "Haunted Woods" and drive through it to begin racing there.
