Learn How To Do Meditation

Are you ready to learn how to do meditation? The basic fundamentals are quite simple. All that is required is practice to get good, but that is true with just about any kind of skill.

Some people are reluctant to learn meditation because they believe it is connected to a religion. The truth is, historically, virtually every religion has utilized meditation, but it is not a religious act, in and of itself. It is a way of quieting the mind, and taking a break from the constant input of outside sources that constantly cram into your brain; (as well as stopping the internal dialogue & chatter you tend to, otherwise, have with yourself.)

The first thing you need to do is set aside 20 minutes every day when you will not be interrupted. Do what you have to do to make this happen. Let everyone know you will not be disturbed in that time.

Take the phone off the hook and turn off the wireless phone too, as well as radio, TV, etc. It is best to be seated rather than lying down because it is too easy to drift off to sleep. Ideally your posture should be straight with your feet on the floor, with your hands, palms down, on your thighs.

You should relax as many muscles as possible in that position, keeping your head up, normally. Your back muscles will be the most active. If they are not strong enough to support your correct posture for 20 minutes, you can lean against the back of the chair, but try to go longer each day until you no longer need the back support. Totally release your belly muscles. You will be inhaling to the bottom of your lungs, for once, so this is crucial. Let your belly rest on the tops of your thighs.

Inhale slowly, to the bottom of your lungs. When they are filled your stomach will expand, then you will feel the middle of your lungs and, finally, the top of your lungs expand. When you can hold no more air, release the air from the top of your lungs, then feel the air from the middle lungs leave, and to get all the out of the bottom part, use your stomach muscles. When the last is out, release those muscles and start over again. Get into a rhythm, counting to 4(to yourself) each time your inhale and exhale.

Your total focus is on your slow, steady, rhythmic breathing and counting to 4, on each inhalation and each exhalation. Any thoughts that come in, will be released immediately by focusing back on the counting and the breathing. As simple as the concept is, it can take a long time to control your mind from having thoughts.Be gentle with yourself. It gets better with time. Now you know how to do meditation.
