The SAD Diet

Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Alzheimer's have increased in numbers.
Did you know that if we continue on the path that we are currently on it is predicted that by 2025, 75% of Americans would be clinically obese? Not overweight, OBESE!!! We can't put all the blame on lack of exercise, it is part of the problem, but the true problem is we have no idea how to eat anymore.
We just don't know what we are doing and we make it so darn complicated.
We allow food manufacturers to get into our heads and tell us what to eat based on their advertising gimmicks.
Why do you think the fat loss drugs are a billion dollar business? People are looking for a way to shrink their waist line while still enjoying their cheeseburgers.
While I believe everything in moderation, there are some things I simply will not subject my body to.
You will never see me pulling out of a McDonald's drive through, but I will indulge in a hamburger (one that I prepare at home, thank you very much).
I like to know what is going into my food and I want to be able to pronounce every ingredient.
Food companies are getting clever in their laboratories, creating concoctions on how to prolong the shelf life of their ding dongs while still claiming no Trans fats.
Baloney, I'm smarter than that.
Food needs to rot over time, it is never meant to last a decade! That's not food!! That's pure junk.
We are a society that has fewer than 1% of the population consuming the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables a day.
That is absurd!! Yet, the average American consumes over 100 pounds of sugar in a year.
We are a dying country with our overindulgent appetites and quick fix ways.
We have computers that allow us to work while we eat, text while we drive, and order food while sitting in our vehicles.
Heck, I can go to the park any day of the week and see kids playing on the playground while their parents sit on the park bench or in their cars chatting on their phones.
We're not being active with our children, putting the electronic devices aside so we can be a family.
Gaming programmers are trying to develop ways to burn calories while still playing video games.
What happened to driving down a neighborhood and seeing families play ball in their yards? Were headed down an ugly road and if we don't straighten up and start making some serious changes than we are going to pass these ugly new habits down to our own children.
So put down the phone and the donut, go by the grocery store and pick up some real wholesome natural ingredients and head home to cook a healthy balanced meal with your family.
Then go for a walk together, talking about your day, or play catch or tag out in the yard.
While you're at it bring Fido along, studies show as our waist lines grow so does our dogs.
