International Travel Baggage Policy

    Contraband

    • The Federal Transportation Security Administration prohibits packing items including guns, explosives and chemicals in carry-on luggage. The agency also prohibits passengers from carrying sharp objects and "sporting goods," like baseball bats, golf clubs and hockey sticks, on airplanes. You can pack these items in checked baggage.

    Delta

    • Delta's rules for carry-on luggage remain the same for domestic and international flights. The airline allows passengers to carry one purse or small, briefcase-sized bag on board. On international flights, passengers may check one bag for free, and a second bag for $50.

    United Airlines

    • United Airlines requires passengers traveling internationally to check luggage 45 minutes before their flight leaves. Coach passengers can check one bag weighing under 50 lbs. for free. First class passengers can check two bags for free.

    British Airways

    • British Airways allows one bag checked free for coach passengers. Extra bags cost $50. Upgraded ticket classes allow a greater number of bags, up to three free bags for First Club World passengers.
