- 1). Measure a sheet of 6-by-3 inches of Balsa using the ruler. Make a cut mark with the pencil and cut the wood with the hand saw. Repeat this step on a second sheet of Balsa.
- 2). Measure a third piece of Balsa to 5-by-3 inches. Make a cut mark with the pencil and cut it with the hand saw. Repeat this step on a fourth sheet.
- 3). Apply wood glue to the edges of the 5-by-3 inch pieces and assemble the pieces to form a box.
- 4). Attach clamps to the Balsa to hold the frame together while the glue dries. Allow at least six hours for the wood glue to dry.
- 5). Place the frame over a sheet of Balsa. Trace around the frame with the pencil. Cut out the frame using the hand saw. Repeat this step on a second sheet of Balsa. This will be the top and bottom of the box.
- 6). Apply wood glue along the perimeter of the frame. Place one of the cut pieces on top of the frame and secure it with the clamps. Allow the glue to dry.
- 7). Set the completed box on a table or desk and place the second piece of Balsa on top of the box. Open the jewelry box hinges and apply epoxy to the hinge plate where you would normally use screws. Set the hinges on the jewelry box and allow the epoxy to dry for at least four hours.
- 8). Sand the edges of the Balsa with the sandpaper.
