  During the fall, people flock to New England to catch sight of the dazzling spectrum of leaves changing colors. The glow of autumn leaves can provide a beautiful backdrop for an October honeymoon. The Green Mountains of Vermont are attractive year round, and are are especially stunning during the autumn. Couples who love being outdoors will enjoy hiking through Green Mountains visiting apple orchards and maple sugarhouses, and taking a train ride along the Connecticut River on the Green Mountain Railroad. In Waterbury, honeymooners can top off a visit to the scenic Quechee Gorge with some free samples at the Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory.

  New England has many cities and towns that appeal to newlyweds who want a night out on the town during their honeymoon. Boston, Massachusetts is New England's biggest city. While Boston offers all the attractions of any big city: shopping, fine dining, museums and other attractions, its narrow cobble stone streets and brick buildings are rich with history. History buffs can take a cruise on Boston Harbor, visit Faneuil Hall, walk the beautiful streets of Beacon Hill or ride the swan boats in Boston Commons. New England is also home to many small cities, such as Portland, Maine; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Burlington, Vermont. These cities have many of the attractions of bigger cities, but in a more intimate environment.

  Couples who want an elegant honeymoon can head to Newport, Rhode Island, a small New England town that is home to a coastline studded with enormous mansions. Honeymooners who enjoy getting exercise will enjoy the Cliff Walk, a path that offers gorgeous views of the Atlantic ocean, as well as the majestic homes that line the cliffs. Tours are available for many of the estates, such as the Breakers, which was owned by the Vanderbilts. While in Newport, couples can feast on a traditional New England seafood dinner and visit the small downtown area.
