Breast Enlargement Surgery - What Every Woman Should Know

Breast enlargement surgery is mainly done on two categories of women: those with smaller breasts and want them enlarged, and those with drooping breasts which require uplifting and volume restoration. If you are in any of the two categories, here are several things that you need to know about breast enlargement surgery.

How breast enlargement surgery is done

The procedure is done by a qualified surgeon with years of working experience. To ensure that the procedure is painless, the surgeon undertakes the procedure under general anesthesia. Depending on the required size of breasts, the surgeon makes an incision in the breast's crease line. The incision is made here in order to hide the scar that is usually left after surgery.

After incision, the surgeon inserts an implant. The implant is usually either silicone or saline. Silicone implants are the most common. Silicone is made from medical grade silicone gel.

The surgeon inserts the silicone or saline implant beneath a muscle or gland. After the implant has been inserted, the surgeon sutures the incision and the patient is released from hospital on the same day. To maintain the size and shape of the breasts, tapping is done.

After the procedure, you are bound to experience slight discomfort or stretching sensations. The discomfort is brought about by the augmented breasts. The good side with the discomfort is that it ceases after a day or two. After seven days, you must return to the surgeon in order to have the sutures removed.

Points to consider

As much as breast enlargement gives you a larger bosom hence increasing your self confidence, you should consider several factors before undergoing the procedure.

Before the procedure, you should sit down with your surgeon and settle on whether you should have a silicon or saline implant. In most cases, the surgeon will recommend the best implant for your condition.

If the surgeon does not have an outright recommendation, you should make your choice. While making your choice, you should consider the effects of a ruptured implant.

When a saline implant ruptures, the condition is almost identified immediately. This is because breasts deflate as the water solution in the implant drains. Saline is not harmful to the body and rupture of it is not a cause of alarm. In case of rupture, you can always return to the surgeon for a replacement.

On the other hand, when a silicon implant ruptures, silicon does not drain; therefore, the breasts maintain their augmented state. Since breasts remain augmented despite the rupture, it becomes difficult to identify when a silicon implant has ruptured. This can be harmful due to increased exposure of the body to silicon. Often, the rupture is determined using an MRI machine.

Other than basing your choice on the effects of an implant's rupture, you should also consider the shape and size of breasts that you want. Silicone implants have a natural fit as compared to saline implants. Due to this, silicone implants are ideal for small-breasted women. Also, women who have had children and have fragile and thinner breasts can consider having silicone implants.
