Port Charlotte is a small city along the gulf coast in central Florida. The city is just a few miles away from Punta Gorda, Florida, which attracts more tourists than Port Charlotte. Still, Port Charlotte has several outdoor activities to offer, including golf at nearly half a dozen public golf courses. - Riverwood Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course located in Port Charlotte. The course features 6,938 yards of golf with a par of 72, a course rating of 73.8 and a slope rating of 133. The course is ranked as a 4.5-star course by Golf Digest. Riverwood Golf Club was designed by Gene Bates and opened in 1992. Bates designed the first nine holes in wooded area and the last nine holes amid salt marsh to create a diverse and challenging course.

The course rating is 70.0 and the slope rating is 121. The course was originally opened in 1959, although it underwent a renovation in 2005, adding and redesigning several of the holes. Port Charlotte Golf Club also has a pro shop, putting area and clubhouse.

Bill Murray designed the course and it was opened 2006. Kings Gate Golf Club offers year-round golf for golfers of all levels. In addition to 18 holes of golf, Kings Gate Golf Club offers a private putting green, golf lessons and an on-sight restaurant.
