How to Join a Boxing Gym

    • 1). Contact a local boxing club or boxing gym. Start with your local recreation centers, health clubs, or organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of America. If you can't find a local boxing gym, try websites such as BoxingGyms.com and BoxingHelp.com.

    • 2). Verify whether the boxing instructors at the gym have any type of trainer certifications if you are looking for a personal trainer. If you are just looking at boxing as a form of recreation, certification might not be important to you.

    • 3). Visit the boxing gym during a training session. Sit back and observe the boxing trainers and trainees to see how they interact with one another. Watch to assess the skill level of the trainers and trainees.

    • 4). Ask about the cost of joining the gym. The cost for a personal boxing trainer can range from $15 per hour to $100 per hour and more depending on the gym and the trainer. Find out whether boxing equipment, such as gloves, hand wraps, trunks and helmets will be provided or if you need to buy your own equipment.

    • 5). Complete a membership form to join the gym and pay any required fees.
