- 1). Prepare the wall by repairing any damage to the wall and then priming it. Remove all fixtures and light switch plates. Cover area with drop cloth to protect furnishings and carpet.
- 2). Practice on a piece of cardboard the method of finish you would like to achieve. This will help build confidence and allow you to work out any problems you may encounter before working on the wall.
- 3). Place about 2 to 3 cups of smooth texture paint into a paint tray and apply to a roller. Cover a 4’ x 4’ section. Use a paint brush in the corner. Start in a bottom corner of the wall.
- 4). Wait for 5 minutes for the paint to set. Use a large putty knife to smooth the surface. A light but firm tension on the pull will suffice. Pull up and down and then side to side for a smooth finish.
- 5). Add more paint to the paint tray. Apply the texturing paint to the next section overlapping a bit as you cover the next section.
- 6). Work your way across the bottom section of the wall. Then move upwards to the midsection all the way to the top of the wall, using a ladder as needed.
- 7). Take a clean moist rag to remove any unwanted texture paint from moldings or door frames. Clean up brushes thoroughly with pumice soap and water. Work brush in the palm of your hand to remove paint further up in the brush. Lie flat to dry.
- 8). Allow 24 to 48 hours to dray and then prime the wall. Apply a top coat of paint.
