How to Cut a Gable on a Steel Roof

    • 1). With a tape measure, measure the roof from the bottom, up the slope, to its peak. Repeat the process for the other side and all other spots on the roof where the gable will be installed.

    • 2). Measure the first piece of gable and mark where the cut will need to be made with a marker. Draw a straight line with the marker so it can be followed when the cut is being made.

    • 3). Lay the trim down on a flat surface and hold it firmly in place. Turn on the circular saw and cut through the trim directly on the mark with the carbon tipped blade. Cut straight through the piece and do not stop until it has been cut in two.

    • 4). Clean off the edges with a rag to remove any particles and to prevent pitting and rusting on the trim. Measure the piece to verify the length and repeat the process for each of the remaining pieces to be cut.
