How to Recover a Lost Password OS X

    • 1). Turn your Mac on and insert the installation disc into the optical drive.

    • 2). Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple menu in the top left-hand corner and then selecting "Restart."

    • 3). Hold down the "C" button on your keyboard immediately after you hear the start up chime. This allows you to boot from the CD instead of your hard drive.

    • 4). Select a language and click the next arrow. English is the default language.

    • 5). Click the "Utilities" tab at the top of the screen and select "Reset Password."

    • 6). Select the hard drive at the top of the windows. Then select the user that you want to reset the password for by clicking the drop-down menu.

    • 7). Enter and reenter a new password. You can also enter a password hint to help you if you forget your password again.

    • 8). Click the "Save" button and your new password is saved.

    • 9). Close the password utility by clicking "Reset Password" and then "Quit Reset Password." Once you've closed this utility, restart your computer by clicking "Installer" and then "Quit Installer." You have now successfully reset your password in Mac OS X.
