- 1). Close all open files and folders on your computer.
- 2). Open the "Start" menu and click on the "Run" button.
- 3). Type in "cmd" and press "Enter."
- 4). Type in "chkdsk x: /f" and press "Enter," where "x" is the drive letter of the drive containing the recovery files.
- 5). Select "Yes" when asked if you want to check your disk when the computer restarts.
- 6). Reboot the computer to begin the disk-repair process.
- 7). Press "Y" if asked whether you want to save "lost chains" as files, as this will salvage as much data as possible from bad sectors of your disk. These files will be named "Filennnn.chk."
