Dora the Explorer is a character children can use as a birthday party theme. Creating a Dora-themed party does not have to be expensive, and it can be tailored to a child's specific wants. Dora has several story lines that are more like a fairytale, and any of them would make a fun party theme. - Nick Junior's website has several Dora-themed treats. It has step-by-step instructions for making cupcakes with Dora's face on the top. There is a printable template you can use to outline Dora's hair in chocolate and several other details that make assembling them as simple as possible. The cupcakes can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until it is time to eat them.
- For a fairytale party, make princess crowns or decorate some of Dora's estrella (star) friends. Craft stores sell foam-art crowns and stars that can be decorated with self-adhesive foam embellishments, paint, makers or glitter glue. Have everyone's name on the crown or other craft item, especially if they are all the same color. It will make it much easier to send them home with the right artist. If the party is for older children, consider making magic wands.
- Make the entire party a Fairytale Adventure. Create a "map" that will take the guests through the party. Include a game destination (try "Pin the Mask on Swiper"), a craft destination, and the final stop at Fairytale Land, where everyone has snacks and gifts are opened. Make it entertaining for the kids. It will keep the party moving along and provide enough variety that little ones will not get bored.
- Keep some songs from Dora playing in the background. If your party is indoors, you might also consider playing some Dora shows on your television, especially if the party guests are younger. It will provide some unstructured time for them if they get bored with the structured activities that are going on.
- A pinata is a way for the kids to have some fun and get some treats from the party as well. Pinatas work better if the children are a little older and understand that it's best to stay away from the person who is swinging at the pinata.
